A relatively new theory on the location of Atlantis is that the Richat Structure or “Eye of Africa” matches Plato’s descriptions of Atlantis’ capital city of Poseidia with its concentric circles of rings of land and water, past the Pillars of Hercules, with mountains and plains
in certain positions around the city. I believe the evidence suggests the last catastrophic POLE SHIFT suddenly reoriented the surface of the Earth around 12,900 years ago. This is when the last high civilization, dominated by Atlantis, was probably destroyed.
Was Poseidia in West Africa? If the coastline has changed since then, the Richat Structure could have been coastal, man-made, and the world’s main population center under pre-poleshift conditions.
Some believe the previous ice caps took a long time to melt, and that an inland (in ice) sea of melted ice water was suddenly released around 11,600 years ago (Plato’s timing) when an ice dam keeping it in gave way and suddenly released it into the ocean. If this is correct, there would have been a main extinction event 12,900 years ago, and another that affected coastal survivors over a thousand years later.
