The title sounds worse than the contents of the article… https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-08-26/noaa-issues-geomagnetic-storm-warning-crack-opened-earths-magnetic-field-plasma

“According to NOAA Space Weather forecasters, a powerful G3-class geomagnetic storm is [was] in progress on August 26th as Earth passes through the wake of a coronal mass ejection (CME) that arrived with little notice approximately 24 hours ago. Strong magnetic fields in the CME’s wake have cracked into Earth’s magnetosphere, allowing solar wind to enter. So far auroras have been sighted in Scandinavia, Canada, and northern-tier US states such as Michigan and New York.”

So a CME hit the Earth and we saw nice auroras at northern latitudes… some power disruptions occurred… why the Doom Porn type of title for the article?  Is someone trying to get our attention and make us aware bigger problems of this type are likely?  I expected someone to claim that some of the large earthquakes in recent days might have been triggered by this incoming energy, but the article didn’t mention that idea.  Getting hit with much more electromagnetic plasma from a vastly more powerful CME could be like an EMP and shut down the electric grid.  If powerful enough, it could even trigger a pole shift someday.  But unless and until that happens, there are many more likely problems to worry about, from economic collapse to war.  So for once I say: let’s ignore the hype.
