This isn’t the first time Donald Trump has run for President. But in the past, he was seen as a joke. Based on this Gallup poll and a variety of other polls and articles – Now he seems like the most likely winner of the next election. Has Trump improved so much, or has America changed?
Terrorism – Trump first threw his name into the fray in 19XX, before 9/11/2001 and before Americans worried much about terrorism. But now there are frequent terrorist events, and Americans understand that a big event could happen anytime. Obama wants to bring in at least a few hundred thousand Muslim immigrants from Syria and other nations, then do nothing to monitor them.
Which leads to the issue of:
Immigration – Trump suggests ending Muslim immigration until terrorism is under control, monitoring those who are here, and deporting illegal aliens and those committing crimes. He wants to build a wall on the border with Mexico, with a door that allows legal and approved immigrants, but truly keeps out everyone else.
Americans distrust Big Government – many polls reveal that Americans think their biggest threat comes from their own government. Trump is not a career politician or a beltway insider. He says he hates big government and would cut it back and reduce spending too.
Americans distrust politicians – up through Reagan, and maybe part of the first years of the first George Bush, Americans may have trusted their presidents. Bill Clinton, the next George Bush, and Barack Obama have some really shady controversies that most people know about. Politicians LIE, and Americans expect them all to be liars. Trump may seem bombastic and crude, but he seems to say what he thinks. What you see is what you get, and that seems refreshing to many Americans who are tired of LIES and Orwellian doublespeak and political correctness.
Americans have seen a reduced standard of living for many years. Prices and expenses have risen far more than incomes since the 1980s, and any illusion that investments were a safe way to get ahead evaporated with the bursting of the tech/NASDAQ bubble in 2001, and the financial crisis of 2008, and the general malaise/undeclared recession ever since. Obama seems to want to empower the Third World at the expense of America (and Europe.) Obama seems to be enacting policies that will reverse some of the colonialism he grew up to hate, when nations like Britain and France and America dominated the world. Obama is happy to follow the Marxist script to let the West hang itself on the noose of huge debts. Trump promises (even if he can’t necessarily deliver on it) to make America great again.
Americans are simple. They don’t like to read, and study, and apply critical thinking. They want to play games, watch TV, and be entertained. Trump is an entertainer. He offers simple answers to all questions and suggests simple solutions to problems, which make them seem easy to solve.
Trump is offering what many Americans want – less immigrants, less terrorists, less government, less spending, less lies, less excuses for why America isn’t feeling like it’s the greatest nation on earth.
Personally, I don’t expect anyone to be elected in November to replace Obama – I suspect that at least one crisis will be used to justify the suspension of elections, and allow an Obama dictatorship. But if we really do have elections, it looks like the majority of Americans are ready to undo the “change” Obama has perpetrated and “hope” that Trump can correct some of America’s recent problems.
