A video of Peter Kassig’s beheading was released on Sunday.
Kassig was a former US Army Ranger who sympathized with the plight of the locals he saw while serving in Iraq. He founded the aid group SERA (Special Emergency Response and Assistance) – focusing on providing food, supplies, and medical support to Syrian refugees in parts of Turkey and Syria where other groups were scared to go. He gradually accepted the religion of the people he helped and converted to Islam, adopting the name Abdul-Rahman. He was captured while traveling in an ambulance to deliver medical supplies to the Syrian villagers he cared so much about.
“In the video, a hooded militant speaking with a British accent says that Kassig was beheaded for allegedly killing Muslims when he served in Iraq years ago.
