I recently answered a question on Quora.com – Should astrotheology be taught in schools?
Astrotheology will never be taught in schools because it would discredit major religions. Some would have you believe it only pertains to ancient Egypt or Greece or Rome linking “gods” to planets. Technically, it is just “theology founded on observation or knowledge of the celestial bodies.” But what it really shows, if you study it (consider reading Hamlet’s Mill or Suns of God) is that many major religions including Mithraism and Christianity simply personify astronomical bodies to tell stories of cosmic events in human (non-scientific) terms.
Mithras symbolized the Sun, and every image of him slaying the bull (or Moses telling the Israelites to stop worshiping a golden calf) symbolizes the sun exiting the Age of Taurus. Samson symbolized the Sun during a pole shift – when Judges 16:29 says “Samson grasped the two middle pillars” of the house and knocked them down and killed thousands of people…
Christ symbolizes the Sun. There are long-term solar cycles that cause periodic catastrophes on Earth. Think giant solar flares or micronovas. Think catastrophic pole shifts.
The Bible is full of little bits of astrotheology, once you know what to look for. Luke 22:10 says: “a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters.” But in ancient Israel, it was the woman’s job to carry water. To an ancient reader, this line stands out as much as a description of a woman entering battle would. The gender is wrong for the activity. The man carrying the pitcher of water is the zodiac sign of Aquarius; and because of our cycle of axial precession of the equinoxes (about 25,800 years) the vernal equinox is entering the Age of Aquarius right about now. They were talking about our time, using God’s long-term clock – the night sky.
Christ had 12 apostles as the sun moves through a zodiac of 12 constellations.
The Bible describes Christ dying on a cross. This could be the winter solstice sun dying at the crossing point of the ecliptic and the Milky Way, where the galactic center happens to be.
(We know from the description of Joseph and Mary that shepherds were still out in fields sleeping with their flocks when Jesus was born – something ancient Jews only did through early October, when it started to get too cold to continue – but the image above gives a good reason for Christ’s alleged December 25 “birthday.”)
Several verses in Revelation (such as Rev. 5:7) describe Christ gradually ascending to the right hand of God, eventually reaching where He is seated on His throne, to take a scroll and pass judgment and end the present world and start a new one. I believe this is clearly the precessional arrival of the winter solstice (December 21) sun reaching its alignment with the galactic center (throne) which is something the Maya were very concerned with in both their Long Count Calendar and the alignment of the pyramid of Kukulkan at Chitchen Itza, which John Major Jenkins called “an alarm clock set for the early 21st century.” This alignment with the galactic center is happening approximately now (the last years of the close alignment being approximately 2000–2020)
Jesus taught that there would be a delay in the coming of His kingdom (Mat. 6:10; Luke 11:2; Luke 19:11-15; Acts 1:6-7). Its arrival is in the future and will be indicated by signs (Luke 21:31) Matthew 24 is full of important signs. I could go on at length as I do in my books but this is a long post already.
I’ll just summarize by saying our ancient ancestors understood that the sun and its cosmic cycles determine world ages on Earth. They knew how much time would pass before the next catastrophic event (as the Egyptians said, “after the usual interval”) and they told tales masking astronomical cycles with personified events that often became the basis of religions, warning of a future destruction of the world as we know it. The Bible is one such astrotheological book, but no school dares to present it that way at risk of offending people or scaring them that time is short. But these astronomical clues are matching an alignment in our skies now, approximately 2019.
