The Islamic holiday month of Ramadan sees television viewing hours increase, so many businesses in the Islamic world start new advertising campaigns as Ramadan is starting.
The roots of the word Ramadan come from words for fire and burning – and as long as this is interpreted as a self-purification of the spirit through introspection and self-improvement, I love it. Too often, terrorists interpret it more literally as a commandment to burn down the world. My writing often focuses on the evil nature of war and terrorism with its roots in jihad of the past and the threat of greater wars Islamic aggression may start in the future.
But this wonderful Kuwaiti telecom commercial deserves to be promoted in my opinion because it is a rare example of the opposite extreme of peaceful tolerance coming out of the Middle East. It beautifully points out and condemns the absurdity and tragedy of terrorist destruction in a way I wish I saw the Islamic world express much more often. The Middle East would be much more peaceful if all its people took a few minutes to reflect on its subtle messages of peace.
