Many modern discoveries about the sun, moon, and planets turn out to have been known facts in ancient times. In my books, I have pointed out that not only did our very ancient ancestors have accurate measurements of the diameter of the Earth, Moon, and Sun – and distance to the Sun and Moon – but that Eratosthenes gave us an obviously FAKE explanation of how he came up with some of the answers. Since his explanations were impossible, and we know he was the third curator in charge of the Library of Alexandria, we must assume that great hidden knowledge was available within its scrolls, and that he was forbidden from openly explaining the truth.
Modern history tells us that “In 1596, Fabricius discovered the first variable star, Mira. Holwarda determined its eleven month period 44 years later. In 1669, Montanari discovered the second variable star, Algol. Goodricke determined the 2.867 days period of Algol in 1783.”
But a 3,200 year old papyrus found in Egypt also knew Algol’s variable brightness and period of 2.85 days.
“University of Helsinki researchers Lauri Jetsu and Sebastian Porceddu have now performed a statistical analysis of the texts of this document.
“Our statistical analysis leads us to argue that the mythological texts of the Cairo Calendar contain astrophysical information about Algol,” the scientists said.
The analysis revealed that the periods of the variable star Algol (2.85 days) and the Moon (29.6 days) strongly regulate the actions of deities in this calendar.
“We show that Algol was represented as Horus and thus signified both divinity and kingship,” the researchers said.
“The texts describing the actions of Horus are consistent with the course of events witnessed by any naked eye observer of Algol.”

So What? – You may ask – What does it matter if ancient Egypt knew astronomical details Europe didn’t rediscover for thousands of years?
It is one more piece of evidence showing two things of importance:
First, ancient civilizations had very advanced knowledge of math, science, and astronomy – in my opinion, because they had knowledge left over from a previously advanced civilization that was destroyed.
Second, they encode their astronomical knowledge into monuments, into myths, into stories, into religion.
I suggest that if there is indeed a recurring cycle of cosmic destruction that ravages our planet repeatedly every so many thousands of years – that our ancient ancestors may have understood what happened, and what caused it, and when the cycle would repeat again – and that they left warnings in the stories that would be passed down to future generations.
Since both Moses and Jesus grew up in Egypt and mastered all the wisdom of the Egyptians, I suggest that both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible are full of stories which, when they cannot be taken literally, (such as Samson killing a thousand men with the jawbone of a donkey…) should be viewed through the filter of astronomy (in this case, Samson represented the Sun while passing through the Hyades star cluster, which ancient Middle Easterners knew as “the jawbone” of Taurus.
When we are given descriptions of the night sky during the visions of end times prophets like John, we can assume that they are accurate descriptions of a future sky and that we can use the details to calculate WHEN such events could occur. We would describe this as using astronomical software to find the timing based on the clues. The Egyptians called this ability to calculate the positions of heavenly bodies from a date, or vice versa, “going in and out of the sky.”
