Many articles in the last week, like this one at Newsweek, say that climate change has already caused a bit of pole shift: “Climate change has contributed to the shifting of Earth’s axis of rotation, according to new research. Earth’s geographic north and south poles—where the planet’s axis of rotation intersects with its surface—are not fixed. Changes in where the Earth’s mass is distributed can cause the axis, and the poles, to move. Melting glaciers caused a significant amount of water to shift, which scientists have now said helped the locations of the poles accelerate eastward. It is estimated that since 1980, the poles’ positions have moved about 4 meters (13 feet).”
I agree with someone who recently posted a comment on my blog: “It’s a pre-emptive cover story. The movement of The Earth’s axis will be noticed, so a comforting cover story prevents people worrying about it (too much). “Oh yeah, it’s been gradually moving for decades – due to ice melt. No big deal.”
When the upcoming axial pole shift catastrophe does begin, I think it will accelerate to a biblical level very quickly. Propaganda may be spewed to dismiss it with messages like: “We expected that climate change would eventually have a larger impact on shifting poles, but like an earthquake, after a little readjustment this activity will quiet down again soon.” That might only buy a few days, or hours, during which the masses will listen and not panic right away. But even six hours would allow almost every member of the elite to make it to their designated survival locations before the masses inevitably panic and start blocking highways and clogging airports and stop doing the jobs that make travel possible.
The reality is that Earth’s surface conditions will radically change. Even if you survive the pole shift, you may find yourself at a very different latitude – and elevation – compared to what you knew before. The new world may be almost unrecognizable.
I currently live in Pennsylvania. Today, Pittsburgh is on land, averaging over 1000 feet above sea level. Prior to the last pole shift it was about 30 degrees farther north, and under about a mile of ice. Where will it be after the next pole shift? Tropical? Arctic? A mile high? Under the ocean? Philadelphia will be destroyed by tsunamis. Pittsburgh might not be. Where I currently am in between…. I hope I’m not here when it happens. Think about where you want to live if you take the idea of a pole shift seriously.
